are severums even sexable by external features? I've never heard of anyone sexing them except by venting or watching them breed. I could be wrong though.

If anyone says you can tell the sex by looking at a severum in the tank is lying to you. You must pull him/her out of the water to see. Even then I have seen experienced fish keepers struggle to tell the sex.

Is it possible to tell by their behavior? (aggression?..)
Are males usually more aggressive than females?

i doubt it. the only 100% sure way is to look at them while they are breeding to see their tubes.

There are some clues to how to sex severums by external features but they are very controversial. One is the males supposidly have pointed dorsal and ventral fins. Another is in adult specimens the male will have the colored markings (squiggly lines) on the face where as the females will not. I have seen pictures of breeding pairs where one fish has these markings and the other does not, so it is obvious that it is possible to sex by external features.
