I am a beginner and I have a 55 gallon tank with 6 cyntilopia afra and 3 labidischromis caerules. I raised the afra since they were young and they turned out to be 4 males and 2 females. I want to get to get rid all of the males but 1, but I don't know if I need to keep 2 of the males so the female can have her choice of males. I will be getting several females to replace the males I sale back to the fish store. Also what is the male female ratio I should have. I have already had them breed 1 time.

Hey Ross- You have a good sized tank, so I would hold on to two of the males. This way if something happens to one of them you have a back up. There is no magic formula for ratios, but having more females than males is good. I would think any amount of four or more females would be good with your two males. Hope this helps....Scott 8)

i'm not always the best influence, but if those males are not trying to kill each other, i'd keep all of them and get about six more females. :sgypsy:

i simply cannot imagine what possessed tom to do that--i've actually gotten much better...i haven't suggested that anyone throw out furniture to make room for a tank in a very long while... :o  :o

It's okay Gypsy, we understand! I just sold my entertainment center and bought a smaller one so my 125 would fit in the living room :D
