Just finished my new 55 gl. Included are a green terror, Jack Dempsey,Frontosa,Red Terror, 2 nicaruagians, and a gold nugget toe head! All are relitivly small and have a second 55 ready to spill fish over to when they get bigger. Anybody think im over stocked?

Also let me know if you want pics!

you are over stocked, and you have a mix up, Frontosa's are africans and need differnt water conditions to the other americans you have in that tank, what im thinking is....
all those americans you have grow pretty fast, the frontosa doesnt, and you have a mix there of VERY aggressive americans, they might go after the frontosa after a while, i can see that happening...
i cant tell you what to put in your tanks because it looks like you need another two 55g's one for the frontosa (because of differnt water) and another one for the green terror, the jack and the red terror MIGHT be ok but who knows..
good luck!!

Well right now they are all less than an inch and i have a spare 55 gl and a 29.I could toss the frontosa in the 29 for a while cause they get big! Also i could wait and see who the americans pick on and toss that into the 55. im not a complete noob for cichlids though.

I'd say 'have a heart' and find some new accomodations for the front...

Have a few africans. about three but too many for a 29gl right?

04-16-2004, 10:10 PM
what africans do you keep?...if it were to be a temporary fix, it might be ok, for a short time (depending on which africans)

Electric yellow and other assorted!

04-16-2004, 10:21 PM
you could put the frontosa in the 29g, they take AGES to grow, i have had mine for 8 months and its only grown 2"

04-16-2004, 10:27 PM
yea im transfering him! My jack already took a likin to him as we speak! what a lil punk!the jacks half the size too!

04-16-2004, 10:28 PM
yea what if i ditched the 2 nic's would i still be over crowded?

04-16-2004, 10:33 PM
i bet the jack didnt get a bite in, frontosa are ninjas, there so fast and so good at fighting..
what do you mean by nic's?

04-16-2004, 10:34 PM
the 2 nicaraguians get rid of those to my buddy and the frontosa witht the other africans? would i be overcrowded then?

04-16-2004, 10:47 PM
it should be fine, frontosa's are peaceful and it will be a long time before he outgrows the tank

04-16-2004, 10:48 PM
SWEET IM DOIN IT! question are red terrors rare or just hard to find?

04-16-2004, 10:50 PM
Depends on the lfs, if they want cichlids or not..
mine only gets in blue acara's and yellow labs, the chances on me getting a red terror?????????? PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTT no way!!!!!!!!

04-16-2004, 11:40 PM

I think your heading in the wrong direction. The Red Terror should be the first to go considering it will probably be the largest and most aggressive by far. It will probably completely take over your aquarium and kill the others. The Nics on the other hand are a bit smaller and much less aggressive.

You need to remember also that fronts are really deep water fish. That 29 really isn't ideal even now. Just my opinion.

UPDATE! ok well my frontosa is on his own in a 55gl and i got the nicaraguans outta there. So what is left is my jack dempsey, red terror, and green terror and also my gold nugget toe head pleco. All is well for now because they are under an inch long.
weeew what a long day!

So now what are you going to do with the Jack Dempsey and Green Terror?

04-17-2004, 11:25 PM
Leave them in there for now they are so small that they dont care yet

Yes, but soon they will be toast. You need to figure out what your going to do. I think you made a mistake in getting rid of your Nics because they would have been much easier to mix with your other fish than the Festae.

04-19-2004, 09:23 AM
Can you post a pic of your red terror. We are operating on the assumption that it is a festae, but it could just as easily be a Uropthalmus. In either case though, your red terror is going to be the largest and far and away the most aggressive fish in your tank.

havent been able to catch a good pic but it is for sure a festae cause the eye spot on the tail is very high on the fin. I have heard this is the best way to tell the 2 apart. In the mean time i have put him in his own 220gl that i just got from my buddy. Hes in there with my brute of a pleco at 18'' and 5 silver dollars.

holy sh... , did you say 220 gallon, you could just about house anything now.-salty

Yep a 220 im putting it in my garage thats the only place it will fit lol. Im think a buttokoferi or 3 in the 220 but im not sure.Im in the process of setting it up now hopefully it wont take long im thinking of buying a snorkel and fins this thing is sooooo big!
