I think a 75 would be minimal for a pair, 90+ being appropriate.

Why is that? Do jack demseys get that large? Why the need for such a large tank? How long does it take for a demsey to reach its full size or close to it?

Yes they do, they can get to 10 inches. Check out the American Cichlid gallery for some pics of them. I bought 4 in October. They were a little over an inch long. Now the smallest 1 is over 4 inches and the largest is pushing 6 inches. They're in a 125 gallon tank and i had to remove the smallest one because it was getting its butt kicked all the time. He in a 55 gallon w/ a small oscar.I know the biggest 1 is a male. Im praying 1 of the others is a female . If i can get a pair , they will have the 125 for themselves. Gi

Yes totally agree 55g for a pair. Heyguy74 125g is enough space for 2 full grown jags. Jack dempsey get 10" but are not a large fish just long squat bodies.

55 is good for 2. yes , jacks get pretty big. I had a 10 incher easily. he kicked the sh.t out a male 8 " jaguar in my 65g. The jag just kept starting trouble with him. I think the jack just wanted to be left alone on his side of tank. jags are diks.
