What is the current thinking regarding aquarium salt. I have some, but I have never used it. Can anyone give me some tips of the trade?

1 Choclate 1.5"

I use it always. 1 rounded Tbsp per 5 gallons & replace appropriate amount with water changes. The fish love it. My chocolate especially swims back & forth in the bubbly haze the salt makes while dissolving. :)

It really depends on the preference of the fish. My oscars and jds seem to really be much happier and healthier with a steady level of salt in their water. Salt aids in gill function. A lot of people don't use it at all unless their fish get sick. When fish get sick, adding 1tbsp of salt per 5 gallons water is the popular standard treatment.
