Evidently it is a bacteria culture in a bag.

Has anyone heard of it yet? It sounds cool.

eh, the idea isn't anything new. i already have something liek that, for a long time in fact(about 4 yrs)

a company called "Marc Weiss Companies Inc." makes a product called "Bacter Vital". ive been using it for years, works great

I am not so sure it is the same. Bacter Vital is a catylist (meaning it starts the growth). Much like the stuff I use Cycle. I think this stuff takes ir a little further (pehaps much further), and actually is the benifical bacteria that we try to grow.

I read about this in a few aquarium magazines and the reviews acted like it was a ground breaking advance.

This reply is a little late, but the bio-spira works great. I got carried away with a water change and removed too much bacteria causing nitrates to spike. My fish where freaking staying at the top of the tank gasping for air. Went to my lfs and bought some bio-spira( 29.99 for 3 ounces pretty pricey) and 24 hours later the nitrites where at 0 again. life saver in a bag.
