I just went to the KC fish club's auction saturday and I had a blast.

HAAS has another one in October, I think MASI has a couple per year near St. Louis. That's probably more than a couple of hours from KC though.

Hey, if I could drive 5 1/2 hours to go to the KC auction, you should be willing to go across your own state.:D

Looks like MASI is having their annual show/auction in a few weeks.

I would go to the MASI on the 18th but I have two other events that I must attend on that sunday.

Jonah, have you heard of any groups in the Wichita, KS or Springfield, MO area?

My bad. I had the wrong weekend. I think I might be able to make it on the 25th.

MASI's annual show and auction is April 23rd-25th. The auction's on the 25th. It'll probably be bigger than the HAAS auction.

Wichita has one listing, but no website.

Couldn't find a listing for Springfield. I think HAAS is planning a road trip down there in May.

IAA's 2nd swap meet is coming up in late May. I think somewhere around May 22nd.

Jonah, did you lose any fish and what did you do to keep your new friends alive for the trip home saturday night?

I lost two.

A female Archocentrus myrnae that was kind of beat up when I first saw her. I rebagged her while they were getting started on the auction. Mike Meyer from HAAS said he'd hook me up with a couple of extra females next time I see him.

The other was the male from that pair of Pelvicachromis rubrolabiatus. The one's I paid $40 for. I think a stupid tiger loach harassed it to death. What the heck was I thinking? I must have still been brain injured from that 6 hour drive. :(

I'm selling the survivor rubro to Mike Meyer. The other fish are all doing great, even the usually delicate Dicrossus filamentosus. When I go to auctions I bring a pump, like the kind you use for blowing up air mattresses and a 6g jug of treated water from my home. I also bring extra bags and rubberbands just in case. Before I hit the road I dump half the bag water, mix it with my water, air it up and tie it off again. Then it goes in a cooler for the trip home.

In my last two trips to KC I've lost a total of 4 fish within 24 hours of the trip. Considering I buy 30-40 fish per trip, that's not too bad, not too good either though. I've never lost fish when I go to the TCA, but it's a much shorter drive.
