I am new to this site and have a thirty tall with a couple of gouramis id like to keep but if i cant -i will find a home for um.
My question is which cichlids might become worthy tank mates with these guys? i realize i cant breed with them or it would be curtains for the gouramis, so i would have to watch the sexes of the cichlids. I will appreciate sum help from you guys!
Thanx

Hi Frawg, Welcome!
Do you have any ideas on which cichlids you like? South American/Central American/African...?

Hi Jenni, i like all of them , they are all cool, i guess it all comes down to compatability issues . I dont want to fight fish like pittbulls and they have different food requirements so i guess i am trying to split hairs and come up with a combination that isnt distructive(or at least too destructive) even the gouramis play a lot of serious grabbass! i need alot of input!

hmm...well, 30 gallons tall isn't very big , so you would need to stay with something on the smaller side...AND not too many.
Have you thought about angelfish? They're cichlids, and would probably appreciate the 'tall' part of the tank. Plus, they should be fine with your gouramis.

Naw, i had angels years ago and they are ok but minimum water for those guys is 75 gallons b-cause they get HUGE. I want sum much more exotic fish than that, i may only end up adding three or four fish because i dont want to overcrowd. The problem with that is the fewer cichlids there are the more aggresive they get. This is a challenge!

My brother and sister-in-law have blue rams - bolivian rams, I believe. They are beautiful fish :) They keep them with gouramis with no problems.

Petun,
Thanx for the reply , yup i know that is a candidate, they have been genetically modified so much that they get sick easily however, i may get one an quarantine it for a few days and put em in there.
