Stole this from Rex over in New World Cichlids LOL, I don't know much about them critters, but I do know a lil bit about the Malawis.
I'd have to say, if money was no object, I'd have a hallway built into a huge 4000g or so tank and have it stocked with none other than Placidachromis Phenochilus and its large swimming mate from the lake: Taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis. Of course with a tank that big I could go nuts with a colony of Sunshine Peacocks. I'm sure there would be tons of other fish in there too. Just wanted to see what the experst would do. :)

I as well would have a large 3000 - 5000 gallon or so tank dividing the den and kitchen, so it could be viewed from all sides. My fish of choice would be Tropheus. Maybe all 6 varieties. About 50 of each!!! (retail up here in Canada where I live for any Tropheus, any size is $40.00 each!!!) That's about what, $12,000.00 just in Tropheus!!! I'm sure I'd have another 100 to 200 more assorted Africans in with them. (again, assuming money is no issue) Wow, now I really am dreaming. Wish me luck for thr lotto draws.
Paul,
Pm me I am in Calgary as well I can get you a little better than $40 for Tropheus.
I am just happy someone else is from Calgary!@

When I was going to college in Fla, I got to see a custom L shaped tank that a buddy had in his living room. It was half in, and half out of the wall. He had his sectional couch butted up to it so the whole tank was behind it . It was awesome  It was about 450 gallons, naturally planted and it was loaded with Discus, Angels and Tetras. The Tetras would school back and forth and actually make a sharp turn in unison when they hit the right angle in the center.

HUGE TANK (like you would see in a Zoo) I guess more like a pond with glass on one side.
Loaded with Tropheus and various other species.

a 100,000 gallon pacu and red-tailed catfish tank w/ an arowana in it.
Also some large SA cichlids And a sturgeon for a bottom feeder! I would scuba dive in it!

i think mine would have to be one that sits on one floor and can be viewed from the floor above. i don't know why, but i love looking down on my fish from above the tank.
i'm thinking next to the stairs so that you can walk up the stairs and see all the levels. in the tank would be a stairway of lava rock (imported from africa, of course) and the tank would contain lots and lots of mbuna.
anyone care to donate? :D

I think they'd all look great in my living room, kitchen, bedroom, den, ah what the heck, I could just build the house around the aquarium ;)
Now that would be cool!!

id say somthing along the lines of a 4000-5000 gallon tank inset into a wall dividing two rooms, tall and loooong and set up to suport the full malawi variety including haps peacocks and mbuna.

I think it would be cool to have a shallow stream-style system with little waterfall/eddies running around the walls. I'd make it a SA dwarf set-up since they live in shallow SA streams. The whole thing would run around the inner walls like a house I once saw on TV with a similar track set-up for cats. Then I'd have one big tank at the center of things for a Tang set-up. Rock walls along three sides for tropheus and rock-dwellers, and open sand space in the center for maybe featherfins and a huge school of Cyp. "Kitumba."
