View Full Version : question about feeding my yellow lab fry
Hi, My yellow lab just gave birth to 8 babies yesterday! I put a little flakes in for them to eat but they don't seem to touch thier food. What is the best way to feed the babies??
All help is appreciated!
Thanks!

They will not respond to flakes quickly. They love baby brine shrimp, but you have to grow those. Keep feeding them finely crushed flake food (as high in protein as you can find) three times a day. In about a week, they will all respond to flakes. IME anyway.

I've had the same experience with crushed flakes. :)
yep, mine didn't really feed from the surface too much till they started getting bigger. They grow pretty quick off the brine shrimp, but it does take 24 hours or so to hatch them. At around 1" the group of fry I got now are eating both baby brine shrimp and crushed up flakes.

I might have misunderstood the question. I got mine to eat crushed flake immediately. The tricky part was getting it down to the fry. I'd put it in front of the filter return and that would push it down into the water where they could get at it.
