I'd have to say that your terrors and JDs had him as a snack one night...

It might have just molted. I had a cleaner shrimp that would do that. I came home one day and found the apparently dead remains of a $30 shrimp in my tank. It turned out that it had just molted and was hiding in the rocks for a few days until it's new skin hardened up. Hopefully that's what's going on with your crayfish.

yeah i didnt think of that...i knew the cichlids wouldnt get him because the crayfish isabout 3-4 " and my cichlids arent even 5 inches yet... all i saw one night was a carcass at the bottem of the tank & i noticed that he justsat there still ofr a couple of days... not going around like he normally does so.... i guess i assumed the worst. i found him this morning at the bottem of the tank causing chaos  . Just dont get one if you are attached to your fish cause it ate my chocolate pleco. The poor fish was still alive after it was being eaten... half of its tail moving and half of its face gone but still sucking :(

when they molt, they are vulnerable to even the smallest fish if they can't find a good enough hiding spot.:(

My friend had a 6" yabbie that was possessed!!! This sucker was evil! She bought 5, & this one killed & ate the other 4 over a few days. Then it'd snip the airlines to the sponge filter & attack her when she tried to repair it. You'd walk into the room & the bugger would have one claw out thru the gap in the lid trying to get ya! One day she came home to find it'd gotten hold of her string bag that was hanging on the back of the door next to the tank & dragged it into the tank, the weight had knocked the tank cover glass in & her bag with her cd walkman was at teh bottom of the tank with this cray sitting on top. So she boiled some water, dropped it in & made herself a miniature cocktail sandwich. Guess the cray met it's match when it comes to sheer vindictiveness! :hmm:

I used to enjoy feeding crawdads to the box turtle. Big ones! It was not unlike watching a godzilla movie. The turtle would bite into the shell and the resulting sound was all-telling. You know that sound that un-cooked macaroni makes...? Kcckrrunch!:smoke2:

^ Don't you just hate the spawn of Satan? Jesus Christ, feeding crayfish to anything at all should be punishable by death. Kill one more innocent crayfish and you will have to fight a JIHAD!!

Actually 'Hammers' is a bit confused, because anyone who would fight a 'Jihad' would not believe in Jesus Christ.
And it seems like 'Hammers' has never heard of the food chain.

Good for bass too. I'll take a bucket of crawfish to the best artificial lure any day of the week.

They're also great if you have a bunch and saute the meat with some dry white wine, butter, lemon, garlic, olive oil, capers, salt, pepper, basil & parsley and pour it over linguini. Sprinkle a mixture of parmesan and asiago cheeses on top and.... yummy! :ok:
