Hi all. I'm not a complete newbie, but it's been a few years since I've had a fish tank setup. Anywho, I bought a 20 gallon ( that's the biggest I could buy based on the space I have available) with the intention of creating a community tank. However, the water where I live has a ph of about 7.8, and is hard (approx 15 dh). Are there any smaller cichlids that I could house in a 20 gallon, with minimal fighting?
Thanks in advance.

a 20 long would be great for a small colony of Tanganyikan shell dwellers. Check out the Tang. forum. There's lots of info. & pics so you could see if you would be interested in something like that.

How about South American Rams? Really pretty, not too aggresive...they would need a lower ph than what you have though...

I usually wouldn't recommend fish that require pH manipulation for new aquarists, but if you do get rams, I believe the Bolivian rams are more adaptable to higher pH and hardness.
