I just purchased a 120 Gallon tank and I am going to have 2 Filstar XP3's Filtering it. The question is, is it OK to use the Carbon in the filter as I start the fishless cycle or will the carbon absorb some of the daily ammonia I put in the tank. I personally dont think it will be a problem but I would like another opinion. Also on another note, has anyone used the caribsea eco-complete african cichlid sand, (the stuff that comes in the package with water) Is this better than plain sand?

Carbon doesn't adsorb ammonia.

Hi!
As for the 'complete cichlid sand'..if you like the look of it, go for it..I think it does look nice, but I have some SERIOUS doubts that there's any live bacteria in that bag!
..sand would be cheaper...but again, if you like the look of it...DO IT :)
