just won an auction for a trio of these guys.(yes--i'm still shopping :oops: ). i don't know whether they are from the zue island or mwanza gulf populations--must ask.

Hello, H.chromogynos is known from Zué island, i don't know if they are catch elsewhere?

according to my supplier, mine are from zue island, but they are also found at mwanza gulf. right now, mine actually look more like the mwanza gulf variety, but they are young--maybe more colors will develop with maturity.

I don't think that necessarily means that there isn't a Zue' Island variant that's different than the rest of the Mwanza Gulf. Isolated groups can be as close as a couple of hundred yards. Aren't Victorians fun :wink:

i suppose that the variant found at zue island is different from the variant found in the rest of the mwanza gulf. take a look at seehausen's discussion of p. chromogynos.

Salam, the fishes we have in aquaria are all of them native from Zué, I don't think there's a différent variant in the hobby but the chromo is widely distributed, it's sure
