Thanks ahead of time for your replies.

My whole fishroom is heated with Rena Cals, and they work great! I have also had good luck with Ebo Jagers. The only higher priced submersible I didn't like was the Visi Therm. It didn't hold the settings well.

What about Thermal brand (not the compact)? I have had one on my 29 gal. for about 2 years now and it's still chuggin' along. It seems to hold the temp. steady.

8) The only heaters that i use and recommend are Ebo Jagers.

Ebo-Jager seems to be unanimous. However, I can only find 250 watt max. and I was looking for 300 w. Does Ebo-Jager make a 300?
Thanks, Sam

it would be better to get 2 150's instead of one 300...lessens the possibilities of accidents due to heater failure.
MalawiGuy
12-04-2002, 06:25 PM
I don't think so but two 250's should do it.
BTW Gypsy he said he wanted dual 300's not one 300.

Thanks everyone for your replies!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have always heard that it is 5w/gal. So that would be 625. Would I be better getting three 200 w, or even three 250w in case one fails? Cost isn't really a consideration, and I'd rather pay a little extra to get the correct equipment. SGM, no reason to be embarrassed. As helpful as you are and as many post as you make your bound to miss one once in a while. Just remember, "The Only People That Don't Make Mistakes, Are The Ones That Aren't Doing Anything!". :D
Thanks much, Sam

Well.......I never was an officer, in fact I wasn't even a particularly enthusiastic enlisted man. But, that was Nam and another time and another world. I do try though. Now, what do you think about my heater dilemma?
SGypsyMermaid
12-05-2002, 07:45 PM
i would go for a brand that has 300's and get two of those.

.Thanks SGM, like I previously posted, I have used a Thermal heater successfully for 2 yrs now, so maybe I'll stick with that Brand.
By the way, I am still having sleepless nights because you haven't found that site with the pictures of P. daktari blue/gold . Are ya feelin' sorry for me yet?

I am considering getting a Eheim Canister filter with the heater built in. Anyone heard of good or bad reviews of this.

you are bad! if i get some time over the weekend, i'll check some books, but no promises--i've got two large fish shipments coming on saturday, so i'll be busy acclimating fish and re-organizing tanks!

Mbuniac, I've had problems with the thermal's and with visi therm, the ebo jagers I've never had a problem with they don't fluctuate in temperature.
Mbuniac
12-05-2002, 10:39 PM
Well.....I guess we've gone full circle then. My original question was, since Ebo-Jager doesn't make a 300 watt, do I use 3-200w or 3-250w??? Based on the formula of 5 watts/gallon, I need 625 watts.
jnorris
12-06-2002, 06:21 AM
I would play it safe and do 3 200s Ebos are worth it

I must have caught your illness because I went to the LFS (my favorite one in Denver) and ended up getting another canister filter for my tank and 4 more fish (really nice ones). Well anyway I walked away spending $500. Shhhhh
SGypsyMermaid
12-06-2002, 08:31 PM
good grief!! a filter and 4 fish for five hundred bucks!? what kind of fish are they?
jnorris
12-06-2002, 10:04 PM
The filter and media was the evil part. The fish only cost 75.
I got the biggest Eheim with a built in heater and digital readout (5 year warranty). It is rated for 160 gallons and has 3 trays.
I got Julies and a female Neolamprologus pulcher for my lonely males (my new tank is going to be a Tanganiykan tank).

12-07-2002, 12:32 AM
Mbuniac, One Ebo Jager 200w is rated for 60 to 90g, one ebo 250w is rated for 90+ . I think the 5watts per gallon goes out the window as the tank size gets larger.
I use two 200w in the 125. one 200w in the 55, 150w in the 34 and 100 in the 29s.

Okay, so I went with the majority and got Ebo-Jagers (is that pronounced with a J or a Y?). My Thermal is completely submersible. The Ebo-Jagers look like they are excellent quality, but they say, "completely waterproof with low water level protection". They have a line near the top that says "water level". Does that mean that they're not submersible? If not, what happens if the water level gets too high or too low? Does it just shut off automatically, or what?
Thanks, Sam
jnorris
12-19-2002, 08:06 PM
No they are fully submersable. Good choice. Just don't run it with it not in water.
SGypsyMermaid
12-19-2002, 08:32 PM
i think that the part above the line is the part that can remain out of the water while the heater is on.

Well J, "PAY ATTENTION"! :D I have to count on you folks to do my thinking for me! I was looking at them closer tonight and they even feel heavier than my Thermal. I think that's cause the glass is pyrex. Thanks everyone for your input.

Thanks everyone for the info, I appreciate it. Boilermaker, looks like I'm gonna run into a bit of snow as I pass thru your area on my way back up to Pocatello. Oh well, that's why I carry chains if I need them.
Thanks again, Sam

Actuallly I heard it from our northern neighbors.
It is a differnt law to ship such items from Canada to the us than from vise versa....who knew???.....submerge that sucka.......................
If you really care PM me,,,,I will fill you in

Basically the waterline is bull****...ok there I said it..
Censors..anyone Censors....
Its different if you buy them in Canada or the US..US has no waterline....
Sorry to offend folks

jnorris--are you talking about the heaters?...i bought mine in the u.s. :?:
jnorris
12-21-2002, 09:25 AM
Well here is the deal. By Canadian law and some other countries laws they have to put the water mark on it. (according to the people I called)
On some ebo jabers there is a max and then there are some that say do not submerge below this line.
Its the same heater, but evidently it depends where you buy it and or its distributed from.

I wish they made Ebos with digital readouts........I might test a titanium heater with the external probe....
Has anyone had any luck with the digital Ph probe? I am tired of looking at test tubes with drops mess and trying to match colors.....

I kind of like the little red probe on aquariumintsruments.com. I think it was 73.95. I don't think I need one that constantly moniters the tank. Especially since our tap water is 8.2 8)
