Sorry, I thought it was a weird question. I was wondering about the mixed cichlid tanks at pet stores, were they hybrid or just left overs thrown in a bag? My parents went to a pet shop they said the pet shop would take in trade my hybrids. I hope he misunderstood them, or they weren't sure what they were talking about.

unfortunately, your parents probably didn't misunderstand them. that's why it's so important that we as aquarists are responsible enough not to provide the pet stores with hybrids. although many people believe that whenever a tank is labeled 'mixed cichlids', it means that they are hybrids, i disagree. i know that one of the lfs that i use keeps one tank for small juvenile lake cichlids, one for medium, and a couple more for large. they simply do not have the tank space to house the species individually.
