I have a plant that has been in my tank for i'm not kidding about 13 years. It has always donewell in there with the standard florecent lighting. There were allot of days were I wouldnt run the lights at all. I added a new plant to the aquarium and stated running my light more often now the original is not doing so well. I am thinking of getting a growth light to replace the standard light but do you think thats my problem. Maybe this plant is just going through a stage or something? It still has some new growth. Also were is a good site for plant id so I could get some specific names

there could be a number of reasons for the problem--do you know what the plants are. some plants react to brighter light by dying back and putting out new growth. swordplants tend to hog the nutrients from some other plants.

I belive the plant that has been in there for about 13 years is a type of sword plant. I will research it out try and post the exact names. Are there any supliments that I should be dosing and what kind of lighting is recomended?

the lighting requirements depend upon what type plants they are. they are a lot of different plant supplements. if you have an aquarium catalog like: 'that fish place', 'pet solutions', 'pet warehouse', etc. you can check them out. i use big al's brand from www.bigalsonline.com

Cabomba caroliniana , I belive is the name of the new plant I bought. There are allot of plants on the net that look similar so it is hard to sure.
SGypsyMermaid, Thanks for the link and the advise

cabomba needs a lot of light and co2 injection to remain full and lush--under normal lighting and without co2, it gets stringy. see www.thekrib.com for a lot of plant info.
