Well if that's what you are gonna do...
Just thought I'd mention though, before the crash of August there were over 300 members and growing every day.
I'd suggest keeping a bookmark and checking back once in a while, there are quite a few REALLY smart people here. We just need them to post a little more.

 awwww, harmonic...i hate to see you go. i was hoping that all of the american crowd would return quickly enough to keep your interest. if you're bent on leaving, please do as pete says, and check back periodically. i think that you will be pleasantly surprised. and you can always drop by the lounge sometimes and just say 'hi'--ok?

:(
Hate to see ya, go! Check back though like the others said. Don't be a stranger!
Yeah, Rudy is out of town, and Rex and Ferbus should be back around pretty soon. They are all very well informed and experienced with American cichlids. I have taken it upon myself to keep things going until the regulars are back. Please check back in a few weeks. Like I said before, this was the best American cichlid forum on the net prior to our initial crash.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to prevent this. By trade I am an IT geek of sorts. I actually own my own IT consulting firm.

tom is the boss--you can send him a PM.
harmonic,
Are you still here? :( Don't want to talk you out of anything but I love american talk. There is not really a good board out there for americans so lets make this one it.

Hi Jonathan
I asked myself that same question a few times last month.
An engineer is something I'm definitely not, but from what I can understand, the server crash was a result of it being stuck at the Grub Command Prompt with a "Cannot Load Kernel" error. But reinstalling the kernel didn't work. The on-site techs then put in a new hard drive (the old one was history) and rebooted. (RH 7.2 was reinstalled and the kernel was updated.) Later, when we were reinstalling cpanel, we discovered that the techs hadn't included a swap partition, so we had to repartition /tmp/ and /home to allow for the swap space.
At any rate, backups are currently being done once a day by an automated cron script. I also do a manual backup via phpMyAdmin every few days to ensure that we're grabbing both content and structure.
I'm seriously considering a move to NAC. I don't know if it's the best DC on the planet as some claim, but I do know that quality equipment and b/w is the story there.
Back to the fishies....Speaking of which, folks: Yes, I have to set the rest of the forums. I'll do that later today then move any corresponding posts to those sections. As for the old gallery files: Please give me a few more days before I begin transferring them since the physical location of cichlidgallery.com may change. Anyone familar with transfers via SSH (I'm thinking wget) is welcome to volunteer.
