Can anyone tell me if these pics are of a male & female Johanni? The darker of the two has been chasing the lighter quite a bit lately. I bought the two from my LFS, which is generally reliable regarding Africans, as a pair of Johannis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that second fish looks like a melanochromis species, but not m. johanni. can't tell anything from that head-on shot of the male.

I have afish called socolofi that looks just like your female, but it is in the pseudo family-what are the colours?

Two common forms of M. johanni are the regular variety in which all are born yellow/orange and the males develop into a blue/black.

The other common type is actually a M. maingano....but often refered to as an Electric Blue johanni. Both males and females are born blue/black and retain this coloration through to adulthood:
