I have a couple questions. My female is on her second set of fry. Now, I have never had any intentions on breeding, but it just kinda happened. The first batch I'm not sure how many fry were there. I just saw these tiny fish there one day. Wellthey getting bigger, so I just let them go. I decided to set up a small tank and move them to it. I gave 4 away to a friend and moved 7 to the tank. My question is, how many fry does the female have at a time? She just spit more out again because I could see 2 new ones a week ago and today I count 6???
I have 2 small tanks and in the process of putting together a 175 gal. My rev tank is a 55 gal and the tank I through together to put fry in is a 45gal. So, I'm not really wanting to start beeding, but I would like to fill my new big tank. Anything I need to be doing to keep my fry increasing?

Sounds to me like you've inadvertently done everything right!! Good for you!!:me: The size of the broods will deend on what type of fish you are breeding. I had 7 the first time and 20+ the second. Lets us know the type of fish and I am sure someone on here has experience with them.,

Very nice fish!! I think you can count on your spawns getting a bit bigger each time. If you intend on letting the females spit in the main tank then removing the fry, of course they will be smaller than if you remove the females to spit or even strip them. You have nothing to worry about, once they get going I have never heard of them slowing down. Except in the case of age or sickness.

Thanks, but once again, I am new at this. What does strip a fish mean???? I mean I can get someone to strip in front of my tank, but I'm not going to..... :yikes::rofl2:

It means that you manually remove fry from the mother's mouth.

Does that harm the mother?

Depends. It shouldn't but I have heard of situations when people have said that the female doesn't recover. It's likely they squeezed too tightly or were too rough some how with her.
In my own experience, no. I've never had a female hurt from stripping. It's a matter of opening the mouth and letting the babies fall out. If you are very concerned about it, there is the funnel method. Put the female head first into a funnel and pour water over her.
