Yesterday i was given a juvenile Frontosa. That makes 4 burundi and one 5 stripe (I dont know the scientific name) but the five stripe is just as big. 3 of my Frontosas are 5 inchs, one is 3.5 inchs and the new guy is 1.5 inchs. Just recently my Fronts. hit a growth spurt so in about a year they'll be close to stop growing. About what size tank do I need for these guys plus a wide variety of mbuna, peacocks and other tanganiyka species. (about 14-18 fish in all)

BMX, I have a question to ask you.
You say that you just received a 5 Stripe and you already have 4 Burundi...correct?
The Burundi, are they 6 Stripe?
If so I would worry about different Fronts breeding.
Inbreeding and crossbreeding of Fronts is a pretty bad sight.
Just wondering.

I have 3 fronts....2 burundi, 1 is a 'mix'...on one side there's 5 stripes, on the other is 6.

No offense Jenni, if you are keeping the Front (the mix) not to breed then I have no problem with it...but....breeding crossbred or inbred species is bad for our hobby.
I started off with a large group of 7 stripe Kigoma's and one by one as a male became dominating I pulled him out and sold him to the lfs. I did this until all I had left were females. When I am ready I will find the females a male one day and breed them.
If I had kept a male with them the offspring could have been disasterous.

Hi fisch-
my fronts are only about 2 inches long..no breeding threat yet! I understand your point & I agree. My mixed front is for a pet..that's it. He was sold as a 'tank-strain' of frontosa...so when you see this at the LFS..perhaps that's what they mean...mixed fronts.

That's cool, Jenni.
I hope no offense was taken.
Too bad that some lfs are uneducated and will sell hybrids or mixed strains.
