Only been keeping fish for about 2 years and only got into it seriously in recent weeks

Got a couple of basic questions and wasn't sure where else to put them so I thought here would do.

Firstly, as I'm in the UK all our tank sizes over here are in litres, so when you all mention about tank sizes in gallons I haven't a clue how big they are. How does litres compare to gallons, I've only got a 120 litre tank at the moment, how big would this be in gallons?

Some of the first cichlids I bought were yellow finned acei, at the time they were a bright purple colour and looked really good. However as they've got bigger they've turned a deep purple colour and are really ugly to look at. I know the bloke at the local shop will take fish that people don't want but as I've never done this before I'm not sure what the procedure is with regards to cash.
should I ask for some cash for them as I guess he will be selling them on? In all honesty I'm not too bothered as I only payed a few quid for them.
I don't want to seem rude by asking for cash but on the other hand I don't want to miss out by not asking.... if you see what I mean?

well, it can't hurt to ask, but i think most places will give you a store credit--not cash.

topfish,

I'm new on here as well, and in the UK,

Not sure where you live or what store you are tring to return the fish to but sgypsy is right most stores will (within reason) exchange fish for other stock but tring to get cash is a different kettle of fish  (funny how that phrase never seemed that funny before), it helps if you start to use the store often, and they know you, i.e. know your tanks are healthy etc, that way they are more likly to take fish in.

There are a couple of different variants of Ps. acei. Here's a pic link to the "usual" (and prettiest) acei:

Is it possible yours is the elongatus-style Ps. acei Ngara?

Thanks for the replys.

I've spent a bit of time watching them recently and decided that I'm going to keep one (the dominant one) and get rid of the other one as it appears to be getting terrorised by the other one.
I'm not sure what to get instead though, once he goes I will be left with 1 acei, 1 red zebra and a few plecos.

Thanks for the info about the trade in, when I thought about it originally it didn't occur to me that this is probably what they would do

Neil - I'm in the surrey/south london area, got a couple of specialist shops round here and also a big garden centre that has pretty decent fish.

Also while I'm here - I'm also well into my pleco's but I'm having trouble finding resources/forums etc for them on the web, can anyone point me in the right direction?
