I'm thinking about switching some of tanks. I've been thinking about taking my 29 gallon which is currently full of angels and other fish and switching it with my 55 gallon cichlid tank. I currently have one of the following fish in my 55g - l. caeruleus "white", labidochromis sp. Red top hongi, maylandia lombardoi, rusty cichlid, placidochromis phenochilus, 1 unknown sp. sold as labidochromis sp. mbamba, and a jewel cichlid - hemichromis bimaculatus.
I've never been satisfied with my 55 cichlid tank- i've switched fish 3 or 4 times and I am always switching the decorations because i am fickle.
I plan on returning some of the fish in my 55 gallon.
Does anyone see a problem with keeping the L. Caeruleus "white", Labidochromis sp. Red Top Hongi, and the jewel cichlid with the addition of 2-3 females of L. sp. Red Top Hongi in a 29 gallon? My wife loves the jewel cichlid and i like the 2 labidochromis species (which is why we are keeping the jewel and the l. caeruleus "white") plus i'd like to see some breeding rituals and the red top is a gorgeous fish. The rest of the fish I'm not to crazy about.
Any opinions would be nice.

you're really rudy aren't you?
Could work if males are tolerant, but 55 would be better for em . I have 1m/2f yellow labs, 1m/2f lab hongi in my 30 gallon without much problems though. They have been spawning like bunnies the past few months. 4 yellow lab spawns and 2 hongi spawns :D My 30 is prety well covered with rock w/ good # of hiding spots. Not really sure on the jewel cichlids, I haven't kept those. They will probably have to take some harrassment.

I'm keeping 8 mbuna in a 29 gal. They are all subadult (just barely) except for my 5" L. caeruleus. I'm moving them to a 125 next month. It is definitely "one crowded, active tank". Give 'em lots of hiding places! LOL
Why don't you try a species tank with some dwarf mbuna?
Don't worry transitions of tanks get easier and easier with every time you do it. I can get rid of fish and have a whole new set up by the next day  My wife usually won't even find out

space . . . i need more space.
If i had even a tiny bit more space i'd set up two species tank with l. caeruleus white and l. sp. red top hongi. if i had a lot more space i'd buy a much bigger tank. but i have no more room nor a lot of cash.
I am perplexed. this sucks.
