midas and red devil please look at

how big should they be before they get there humps midas is about 6 to 7 inches and red devil is about 4 1/2 to 5 inches

i thought the humps on their heads didn't form till they were fully grown, so somewhere around 10" for the midas. My Midas is only about 5" or so right now, so I'm just going off of the Midas at one of the fish stores around here.

I want to say when they feel dominant in the tank they will form because at my store they will all come in with no humps and as the dominance in the tank starts to form at least one will visibly start develop a nuchal hump (did I spell that right?). :rolleyes:

It all depends on who you talk to. My fish have all been diferent My first Red Devil didn't got his hump when he was 10.5" after I put him in a big tank 75gal when I got him they had kept him in a 20gal for almost 4yrs with a pleco. The second and third devils came frome a friend that had thim in a 100gal with other fish one was 12" and had a hump the other was 5" to 6" and had no hump I split them up big one was is mean I gave the small one to a friend that had a 55gal with nothing in it and when he made him self at home he grew a hump. The 4th devil I saved from a bad LFS was a 5" to 6" I made him a home he has never realy grown a hump slight if any then I put the 5th in with him 4" and #5 grew a big hump quick but was not the dominant one in the tank. Any way I think Its all up to the fish some say it grow at sexual maturity and others say if they are the dominant fish. I havent been keeping them long only 8 months now so I am not an expert by far. And if they are females they may or may not grow a hump

i don't think they will feel domonat in this tank because there is an 8 to 9 inch red oscar which pretty much owns the tank then i have about an 6 to 7 inch jackdempsey

well i have moved them both in another tank now the midas is begining to get his hump
