Hi, I'm no expert on this, but this is my experience. My JD's are on their second batch of fry. My male is only about 4-41/2 inches, and my female is about an 1/2in to 1 in shorter than he is. Both times before I noticed any fry I would notice that they would pick out one of the clay pots in my tank, and intensely guard it. When one isn't in it the other one is. Then my female will turn almost all black, and after the babies are born the male will do the same thing.

I had a female spawn at about 2.5". Thats pretty rare. Normally, they are between 3" - 4".

Your female is probably ready at that size. Good to see you posting, BW!

Most of my females start filling up with eggs at about three inches. Good luck with your pair.
