I was wondering if I had a Red Cherry Zebra and a Blue Johanni in a 40 gallon would that be okay or would they not be able to thrive and grow to their full potential?? Its just a thought as of right now.

Im not sure about the two mbuna in there, but have you thought about maybe doing tangs. Maybe put some multis, calvus and julis in there. Just an idea.

They should be fine... you could most likely add 2-3 more of each species as well... what are the dimensions of the tank??? it would matter if it was long, standard, or tall, but bnoel's idea would most likely work better!

Yeah thats what i wanted to know as well, why_spyder. because if it were longer then then could have more fish, but witha tall/standard tank they could maybe get the 2...

With a 3' aquarium I would do only 1 species with a single male and multiple females (3 or more).

i dont know if you've thought about stocking but some really good choices would be yellow labs or saulosi i would recommend the saulosi because the males are blue and the females are yellow so you would get 2 colors and still have only one species. In a 40g for saulosi i would think you could do 1-2 males and 3-6 females maybe someone else might chime in...
