View Full Version : Nitrates in tap water

I just tested my tap water because I haven't ever been able to eliminate all nitrates- even with very frequent water changes.

Nitrates= 20 (or close to it)
hardness= 120
alkalinity=between 80 and 120
PH =7.6

I am keeping two severums in a 40 gallon.

I have a new 90 gallon, in which I want to put

2 emperor 400 filters
my two gold severums

maybe an oscar?
or maybe two more severums?
and a little dither school?

can I do this with this nitrate water I have?

also- the water is too hard for my severums- I put some softener stuff in it but I hope to add some drift wood to eliminate this need.

Thanks for your your time,

Your nitrates are fine just make sure to keep up on your water changes don't let them get above 50

Do not worry about your hardness, sevrums will do just fine in it.
