One pair can be kept and breed in a tank as small as 10 gals. A larger tank would be better though.

I have them in a 20 gal right now but they are babies and I have no idea if they are male & female. I hardly ever see them :( they don't come out in the open.

hiya fins! :D maybe you need some small dither fish to convince them that it's safe to come out and play, say some small rainbow fish.

I used zebra danios for my Neo. brichardi when they were hiding out. It worked within hours to draw them out of their cave.

I'll try that and see what happens. Right now, they are so shy they wait for food (brine shrimp) to float by their cave to grab it. It has to come within an inch or they let it pass.

although, now that i think about it--i think that i read somewhere that julies tend to stay right by their caves. i only have two in one tank and one in another. both tanks are very busy tanks and i see the julies all the time. so maybe the dithers will work. good luck. :)

Wow!
The zebra danio's worked like a charm. I also bought a few more baby Julies for them to play with. All are zooming all over the tank now. :P
