Hello! I would really appreciate it if anyone here could tell me what is possibly wrong with Angel. He doesn't seem irritated by it, but it looks sore. He's eating and swimming fine.

When I purchased him 4 days ago, I noticed a slight discoloration (a dull gray) where this "burn" appears, and it has increasingly become yellowish and I can see tiny red marks in the area as well, as of today.

:( You can see him HERE (http://www.w-a-h.com/help.htm).

How do I treat it most effectively? Thanks for any help!

I don't know if fish can get ammonia burns, they however can die from the ammonia being to high in the tank. Get some test strips to test out the ammonia in your tank. My angel has some little black dots in the area near to what you highlighted. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I like the intense black stripes of your angel, mine does not get dark striping that often. On my angel he does look like the way your does kinda faded on top. Usually my angel has his first 2 stripes and the last one in the tail region, the rest come and go with his moods, along with half of his eye turning red.

I don't know what it is, but amonia would affect the gills before any part of the body.
I don't know about the yellow w/ red marks you wrote about, but my Salvini that had HITH showed faded color along his lateral line along with some erosion.

Thanks for the replies. My levels did spike but I've been doing 20% water changes every other day. Good to know other angels have a faded top, but I just thought it seemed to be visibly getting worse since purchasing him. His intense stripes are what made me choose him!

I was reading up on HITH, Velvet and Trichodina yesterday. I noticed him yawning lastnight and gulping at the top of the tank a few times. He still has his appetite and I haven't seen him rubbing on things. I guess I'll keep looking around, checking back here to see if anyone else recognizes this as a concern, and watching him.

Thanks the209jungalist and crazyfishlady! :)

Well... I've looked at a bunch of images now and notice many of these angels seem to have a similar appearance. I feel somewhat better, but please, if you think this is some kind of disease, please speak up!

Thanks :)
