The last one sounds like a jewel cichlid, Hemichromis bimaculatus. They come from African rivers rather than the hard waters of the Rift Lakes.
Most Synodontis species of catfish will do fine as bottom feeders with the other fish you mentioned.

Synodontis sp. will hold their own. Pl*cos tend to get their eyes bit out with larger cichlids, but they still survive w/out their eyes...So far my "pl*co" is doing just fine, it has both eyes, and is hiding in caves and showing enough agression against curious fish to keep them at bay (even my P.demasoni).... My S.decorus and "pl*co" never seem to interact w/each other though...
Clown loaches and certain species of Cory Cats as well as some of the larger "shark like" catfish...

My pleco does just fine. My tank is spotless, and although my yellow sunshine occasionally pecks at him, he's been in there almost a year and is super healthy.

I have two red-clawed crabs as well, which leads to an even cleaner tank :)

It's funny you should mention the crabs. I have a large decorative stump (not a real one - one of those Deco-Replica thingies), that is so tall that it just barely sticks out of the water of my small tank which houses (4) Cichlids. I threw a couple Fiddler Crabs in there, and they are having a great time. When the crabs wander into the water for a stroll the Cichlids either completely ignore them or briefly look at them as if they are thinking "Woah...what the heck are YOU?! Whatever..." and they are on their merry way. The crabs seem to be thriving. I have been keeping a touch of Aquarium salt in the water even before putting the crabs in there. The crabs love the freshwater with a bit of salt. Between my hyperactive Cichlids and these two crabs it has made for quite an entertaining tank.
