Well, I can tell you what to stay away from since it's planted.....Lake Malawi Cichlids....big diggers, they are
Kribs would work well.

When I first started out with Cichlids, I had them in a 10 gallon tank. The stay in the tank for months, and I didn't bother them. I didn't know how know much about them. I was raising Guppies. I finally purchased a 20 gallon, and I am planning on a 75 when I move. If you are purchasing any fish that will grow, expect to have to upgrade in the later.
Back to the routine!

Sounds like a good tank for a pair of Kribensis.

Yes a pair of Kribs would also be an excellant choice.Very easy to breed you would have fry within a month if you get a pair, and the females look just as good as the males! If your just starting out with cichlids then kribs are perfect.
