So Many Types of Frontosa

Hi! everyone!:)
I currently have a 55gallon with lemon cichlids and a trio of Frontosa. Everything is great! My question is ... what kind of
Frontosa do i have? I have seen Kapampas, Burundi, Zambian Blues and Zaire Kitumbas, but how am i supposed to know what i have? My dominant male is violet with 7 black stripes. My female is pastel blue with 7 black stripes. The other frontosa is like the female in coloring. If anyone has any information or a web site about frontosa please let me know. :ok:

Could they be 7-stripe fronts?

P.S. I hope you have plans to upgrade that tank to something larger as they grow.

Hi! Yes i thought that too but
all three have 7 stripes. Isn't there different types of 7 stripe frontosa? I think the zaire kitumbas and the burundi both have 7 stripes. My male is a different color than my other two. Whats the diference if any?
P.S. All three fronts will be moved to there own larger tank eventually, they have some growing to do first.

There may be more than one type of front with 7 stripes, but I've usually only seem them for sale as 7-stripe fronts. Armke's lists Kigoma "7 stripe." It also lists Burundis without specifying number of stripes.

I think that most fronts only have six stripes. Did you buy them all at the same place out of the same tank? If so, you probably have the same type with different coloring quality on teh individuals.

yeah, they must be all kigomas...burundis have six stripes. i'm pretty sure that the kigomas are the only 7 stripe variety.

I thought I remember seeing a variant map somewhere so I did a little looking.

If you go to this website

and click on Frontosa varient map (first one down from the top) and click on Kigoma...it shows eight different pictures of Kigoma

It says that it is the only variant with seven stripes available. Check it out!

Wow! those were all really helpful. They are kigomas. Thats what i wanted to know.
