When I got back with my new Ehiem canister filter I noticed some small white spots on my Regal Alonocara and a few of the females.

I went out and got the recommended treatment ( and took the carbon filters offline and added salt.

I did a water test before the addition of chemicals ans everything was fine.
8.2 Ph and no ammonia.

I just did a water test and it seems that the chemicals that I put in my tank have basically screwed up my PH 7.6, high ammonia levels. I guess it is possible that when I took other "seasoned" filters offline that I disturbed the biological filtration. Perhaps the Ehiems are too good.

I have been doing water changes daily for the last three days (25-30%). I was wondering if I stopped the treatment and went strictly with salt would the Ich infestation just run its course?

Thinking about the investment of fish I have in my tank ($500-$600). I think it is a toss up of killing fish by incorrect environment and by ich itself.

Any ideas? Help would be great because now I think I am doing more harm than good by treatment...which is all too possible with me being the over compulsive person that I am told I can be

The medication I am using is Kordon Rid Ich which is amde from malachite green.

AND NOW THAT I READ IT IT HAS Formaldehyde 4.26%

IS THIS NORMAL FOR MEDICATION???????????

Yikes

Should I consider putting in the carbon yet?

Not to say what your using is a bad med, but everytime I've used an ich med with formaldehyde I've ended up losing some fish. The stuff I like the best is NOX-ICH used at 1/2 strength for 5 days, always have had good luck with it, but seem to have trouble finding it. And 1 good side effect I've noticed with it is, after treatment and filtering it out, is crystal clear water. One bad side effect is, this stuff will give silicone a blue tint but it fades in time.
Good Luck

I didn't loose any fish but came close. I had to do an emergency water change and I then added a few cups of carbon to my filter.

I will never use that stuff again. I actually had luck with just plain salt and increasing the water temperature to 84. All of the Ich has dissapeared and I haven't lost any fish.

Lesson learned I guess, it was a little late advise however...
