Well, after having a Marble Cat that I know was holding die several weeks ago (only held for a few weeks)- today I found a lone fry hiding when I moved a few rocks. Very tiny little rascal appears to be black. How quickly will it grow (assuming it continues to hide well) and how soon should I be able to determine its ancestry. I have mixed sex Rusty's, red top kimpuna, and yellow labs in the tank also but I didn't notice any of them holding. I'm guessing this may be the lone survivor from the marble cat. Any easy ways to determine origin of fry? From wherever he came, I'm happy to have him. He's the first. :D

congratulations--hope your little guy makes it. usually, non-hybrid fry look exactly like their mothers, but with the OB species, that may not be true.

During my bi monthly tank cleaning this morning I discoverd several small friends for the one fry I found. I located at least four (three have found each other now and are seeking shelter as a group). Can't be sure, but I think they may be Rusty offspring. I never saw one holding, but that's what they look like. I'm not really looking to breed fish (though this is pretty exciting) so I'm going to leave the little fella's in there and see what happens. Thanks for all the advice.

the one that was holding could have hidden in the rocks the whole time--i've had that happen. enjoy them!
