Detritus/mulm eaters?

What is a good detritus/mulm eater for a firemouth breeding tank (50g)? I had 2 pictus cats both which died from ich and Rid-Ich treatment. They really only ate my pellet food. Also on a side question, my firemouths are real poopy eaters. THey only eat a few crumbles of cichlid food. They eat bloodworms ok. Wont eat big pellets. Just swallow and spit it out. Wont eat krill either or grasshoppers.

very few fish will actually eat detrius (it wouldn't be my first choice of food), what about trying a couple of hoplo's they are always rooting around and stop the gravel/sand from compacting too much and disturb any waste so the filter/s can pick it up.

How long have you had your firemouths?, try not feeding for a couple of days, and then offer the pellets again, might make a difference.
