I just got a NICE male johnstoni and I have 2 female VC-10's. my question is, not that I want them to, but will they breed with eachother given their similarities?

Sorry, the correct answer is yes, they could breed with one another. Any two fish from Malawi can and will hybridize under the right conditions, and two closely related species are more likely than those that are very distant.
