I read the post about using magnets and then suggested petroleum jelly  ...I thought that the backgrounds you guys were talking about were the kind that go on the OUTSIDE of the tank...us beginners should just learn to "listen and learn" and keep our big mouths shut! (I am really just speaking for myself)

Anyhoooo, for those of you like me who just want a background for the outside of the tank for now, here's my story...

I had read in these forums that black was the best color. I was like...black :?: Well, let's try it. So I swiped all of my two year old's black construction paper and taped it together and put it back there to get the idea. On the other tank I swiped some of her white easel paper on a roll, just to compare. Naturally, the black was awsome...hands down.

So then I went out to buy and I'm like...well...too cheap!! Plus, my husband has be on a budget that now includes fish stuff.

So I went to the Teacher's School Supply Store where I bought a roll (48"x5') of corrugated paper (the stuff used for table skirting, bulletin boards, etc.) in black for $5.50! It looks great and it's very durable and it's stiff so there wasn't alot of tape involved.

I hadn't realized the petroleum jelly suggestion was tied to the magnet topic. The jelly trick is an old one that I always plan on using on the next tank, then I forget about it when it's time to put one on. I'm starting to paint my tank's outside backs. It's cheap and easy.

Open your mouth anytime you want. It's the only way we learn new things, by asking questions or having things explained. Sometimes the discussion is what explains the question. :D
