the blue one looks like some kind of male melanochromis...maybe vermivorus, or johanni. the yellow one looks like a yellow lab(labidochromis caeruleus), although the snout looks to be kind of oddly shaped. but maybe it's just the angle of the photo.

A Cichlid Fanatic who works at the petstore helped me.

My big blue one is a Chipokae from Malawi.

My yellow one is a yellow lab.

My spotted one is an OB Zebra.

Then the other one is some sort of Peacock too.

Anyway, he said that the Cipokae is one of the most aggressive there are.

He also said that nothing in there will mate and that it's not a very good mix and I should just give them away and start over. But especially give away Big Blue.

Any thoughts?

Amy

ahhh--i forgot about the melanochromis chipoake! when the guy said that none of them would mate, he meant that you would only get hybrids from them, but if you've got males and females in there, they may mate. you have to decide whether you want to go with ultra aggressive cichlids, or the mildly aggressive ones.

So, are the other three the "less agressive" kind?

What would be the pros/cons to aggressive vs. non-aggressive. I mean, I would think people would choose the more peacefull species right?

Thanks,
Amy

yes--the other 3 species tend to be less aggressive. some people find the very aggressive fish to be more interesting, or they may happen to especially like a particular fish. with the less aggressive fish, you are less likely to have murder committed in your tank. :) (but nothing is guaranteed)
