This is my Flowerhorn and he is about 7-9 months old and about 8-9" long. This photo is a month old but he pretty much looks the same. He has been with much larger fish since he was about 1.5" long. He hasn't started to show any red yet on the sides but it could either be from being a low grade or immaturity. What do you guys think about when or if he will really start to color up?
kick ass looking fish dude, i seen one today about that size aswell, but it didnt have any color as well, so who knows maybe it is still too young.

I see the coloration coming in behind the gills. I bet in the next two months he'll look very different

I definately hope so I have seen pics on the web of some and they are sweet. I also saw one in a lfs in Las Vegas that was the biggest cichlid I have ever seen, he had to be 14-15" long but the body was a few inches thick and about 8" tall. He was so big that the 2" africans were bitting the heck out of him and he couldn't turn around to defend himself, but not only that, he was really ugly and must have been old and he had not a drop of red on him.

Stephen, i saw the biggest cichlid I have ever seen the other day in an austin fish store. It was a black belt and it had to be 20 to 24 inches long. Big and fat also. I should have asked if I could take a picture of it. It was truly unbelievable.

That's a huge fish, I had a Black belt at one time when I was just starting out in the hobby and he was big maybe about 10" or so but I didn't know anything about them so I returned it to the lfs because it was too doscile for the others.

This one had to have been some kind of mutant. I know they are not supposed to get that big.

feed it malaysian food
the brand is called ALIFE flower horn fish food
it helps the color get brighter and better, the nuchal hump grows bigger and faster and it is better than most cichlid foods trust me i use it the food is a redish color and it has no dye in it

Nice looking fish! Keep us up to date on how the color turns out. I have seen some incredible pics of Flower horns. Where is the best place to purchase this type of fish? How much do they go for?

believe me if a FH doesn't have much color at 8-9 inches it will NEVER have color.
