I have a whole bunch of little convicts in my 55.. They are free swimming now and everyone else is getting pretty interested in what is going on in the corner. I want to take the mom and dad and the babies out and put them in a ten gallon, but not sure how to get the little guys out. Would using the gravel vacuum to suck them up into the 10 gallon kill them??? Also do they need there mom and dad anymore? They are being such good parents I don’t want to separate them but not sure if they will start eating them at some point....

You can use a turkey baster. GENTLY suck them up and put them in the 10 gallon but you will be overcrowded in the 10 gallon. You can leave them with their parents.

They probably don't need mom and dad, but if you separate them, they will soon have a batch of little siblings. And yes, you can use the siphon hose to suck them out without harm, I've done it many times and you would be surprised at how resilient those little buggers can be. They really don't take any damage at all, as they are moving with the water. I usually siphon out wigglers with a piece of airline tubing, but larger fry can be siphoned with larger hose. Just don't splash the water into the receiving container, as that is the part that can hurt them.
