They had the same kind, but the blue was red (still called Silicone I) but for kich. and bath, which was mildew resistant, so i got this one (says for doors and windows on the side).

Bringing back an old thread..........

I just bought some GE silicone II. Supposedly more adhesion than the silicone I. Is this silicone ok for aquariums, I know it says not for aquariums but i read on here that they just say that so you spend more on actual aquarium sealer.

It is the Window and Door NOT the kitchen and bath with mildew resistance.

So will this be ok for my fish?

I don't remember what the difference is between the I and the II, but as long as it has the words "100% silicone" and does not claim to be mildew resistant it should be okay. I've got several tanks that I've used the GE silicone on and they've been in use for years without killing the fish. Just make sure you give it a couple of days to cure and do the sealing in a well ventilated room or outside. I just about knocked myself out one night working on a tank in the garage.

I actually called Ge about the silicone and asked them. This is what they responded.

"Currently we do not carry any silicone that has been approved by the FDA. Our silicones are not safe for human consumption and therefore would not be safe to use in an aquarium. "

I seriously asked the question so if I make sure nobody eats it, I should be fine. They replied yes, but cannot guarantee it. There is no such thing as an aquariums safe silicone made by Ge as it has not been approved by the FDA.

Then I asked.

If I was going to use one of your silicones on an aquarium, which one should I use. They replied that Silicone 2 as it has the strongest adhesive with respect to glass.

Well, I ended up putting the GE II in last week. I was still worried about using it though, it said on the back not for aquariums, whereas the GE I didn't say that.

I ended up scraping it out and using GE I. Still haven't added water or fish yet.

GE rates their adhesion rates from 1-7, and both the I and II are rated as a 7.

the only thing it needs is a good 24 hours after it sets to breath before you add water. after the intial gassing off is done the silicone gasses off so slowly it doesn't factor....
