I have finally got my Auratus to breed and we moved the female to a 20g tank while she has them in her mouth. Today I saw a few fry in the bottom of the tank and they look like they are still half in the egg. They are trying to swim but they cant get off the bottom cause of the egg. Is this normal cause I thought they hatched in her mouth? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

The fry just have part of their egg sack still attached to them. This is perfectly normal. They'll use the sack as a source of nutrition for a few days and will then be ready to accept some fry food and swim freely. Congrats and enjoy!

Ok,all the fry emerged fully formed today. So my new question is how long I should leave the mother in the tank with them. She is still trying to suck them back up in her mouth but she finally ate for the first time in weeks today (thats how they got out) and Im worried that the babies may start looking like tasty niblits now. lol

You can leave them in there as long as you want, she will take care of them. She won't eat them.

From my understanding, I though you were supposed to take the mother out within 3-4 days of her spitting, or else she WILL eat the babies? :e:
