I recently set up a 40g tank and have just added two 5-inch African Peacocks. They have been in the tank for over 48 hours and my one blue one is just going crazy. He is swimming up and down the same side of the tank.
This is my first cichlid tank, but I don’t think this is normal?
If this does not stop, I may try to take him back to the store.
Any thoughts, suggestions. Thank you.

he's just checking out his new surroundings, or chasing his reflection.

Okay, but he looks misreable. Is there anything I can do? Thank you.

how do you mean, 'miserable'? are they fighting? what's your tank set up?

When I say misreable, I mean he is just swimming up and down, up and down is a small space. I have a 40 gallon set up, with driftwood, a few silk plants and some boulder (fake) set up on teh bottom for hiding places. He does not seem to be fighting, just swimming crazy in the same place all the time.

i'm sure that he'll settle down soon. i wouldn't worry about it. read some of the posts in the malawi and african tank forums to get an idea of what to expect as far as behaviors in your cichlids.
