My tank has been set up for a month or so and my nitrites are still a little high. The fish seem to scrape against the bottom and have rapid gill movement. Other than that, they seem fine (healthy appetite and aggression ect. ) Is this behavior due to the nitrite levels? If I start doing water changes every other day as suggested by my LFS, when can I expect this behavior to end? ( I was doing water changes weekly)

by the way... no visual signs of ich or velvet thank god.

thanks,

Doug

Yes, the high nitrites are not good for your fishies. You should change 25 percent of the water every other day until the nitrites disappear and the nitrates come up.

best of luck and welcome to the forums
