Gorgeous, Rudy!
Definantly not Bifasciatus. I'm quite positive that its either a Zonatum or a blue phase Fenestratum. First guess is Zonatum though. How big is he? He looks pretty hefty. Do everything you can to get a clearer pic and I might be able to give a positive ID. Wipe the glass, clean the algae on the front, fiddle with your camera, add lights, whatever.
These fish are very seldonly seen, so finding one in an assorted African tank is a real treat.
Oh, and watch out. He will probably be more aggressive than a Midas and reach a similar or larger size :)
Awesome! Rex thanks. I knew he was a good score regarless of what kind of veija as the only ones you see here are maculicauda and even that is somewhat rare. He is a beefy 8 inches by the way.
I will watch the aggression Rex. Thanks for that and I will try for some good pics. if you want to see a vide here a link to where they work.

All those guys that Cichlid Madness seem a little clueless when it comes to Vieja/Paratheraps.
If thats a Bifasciatus, then I will eat the 4 in my tanks. Bifasciatus are pink and yellow with lots of black blotching. There is a blue form of Bifasciatus, but it looks nothing like your
fish and is not available in North America.
Its also not a Briedohri (although the pic of Rapps' fish IS a Briedohri.)
Guttulatum is a good guess, but you can see that Guttulatum usually have vertical barring/blotches. The blue form of Guttulatum is also a very rare fish. I would discount this as a possibility.
Your fish has yellow fins with red edging, a dark black horizontal striped running the length of the body, light colored areas above and below the black line, and blue coloration in the head and back area. I'm confident to say that your fish is a Zonata.
There is still a small chance that your fish is a different species or a hybrid, but at this point I really doubt it.

I see what you mean about the Guttulatum. I stared at mine for ever last night and it has no trace of the regani type face with the vertical lines.
I will get a good pic as soon as possible. I have just been caught up building this sump.

This is exactly what he does look like however.
Regardless, that is an incredible looking fish! I will have to get some for the forthcoming 300...
