I've been digging around some of the sites on the internet trying to identify the type of cichlid I have but it's all starting to get a bit confusing.
The nearest I've got is that it is from Malawi (I think - I could be miles off). I've had this fish at least three years. He's about 6 inches long (including the tail). The head is kinda yellow/green with bright blue markings/small stripes around the mouth that continue along the body (it becomes more light blue with black spots) and the fins all have a bright yellow fringe around the edge.
Appreciate any help.
As soon as I get a digital camera I'll get a picutre.
Also, are there many other enthusiats around Belfast?
Cheers.
Seán.

Bit more digging around the cichlid gallery, found this picture of a green terror.

The fish I have is a bit bigger but the shape is spot on. The colours are almost right but where this one is green, mine is light blue (almost electric) and the red on the fins is bright yellow on mine. Any thoughts?
Getting a digital camera end of the week :D

Hi Seán
I'm moving your topic to the Neotropical ID forum since your fish appears to be from that side of the pond. (Translation: I can't think of any Malawi species having a shape identical or similar to the Green Terror.)
Could be a green terror as the fins on some are yellow. More of an electric blue color would probably mean it is a female.
Could also be a Blue Acara.
Seán McCaul's mystery fish. Seán reports that the fish, a male, is the survivor of a mated pair.

Wow, that yellow is really intense. Nice looking fish! It is definitely a saum of some type, although I'm not sure I've ever seen that coloration before. Red, orange, and white fin tips are more common. Hopefully someone else will have more to add.

The photo really doesn't do it justice - I'm a bit rusty at taking pictures - the colours are actually a bit more vivid/defined.
I'm not sure how this works with fish but whats the possibility of it being a cross breed? Most of the comments I've had so far suggest a Gold Tip Saum but it resmebles a Green Terror (although its a bit blue as well) - Could it be a cross of these two?
