Hi,
I want to purchase either Altolamprologus Compressiceps (Redfin) or Altolamprologus Calvus (Congo Black) but really I'd like a small group of both. I was wondering whether anyone would be able to tell me if there is any danger of them cross breeding as I'll be buying F0's and I'd be mortified if my expensive imports started having freaky fry!!

Many Thanks,

Dust.

It is possible for them to crossbreed.

When you say possible, is it likely or unlikely? If you had to choose one between the two species Calvus and Compessiceps which would you choose and why?

Cheers

It is likely to happen in an aquarium setting, the smaller the aquarium, the more likely to happen IMO. It isn't a huge deal as long as you don't let anyone have the fry. Keep in mind, that these critters can lay 150 eggs at a time and if you keep them all, you will need at least 3 more tanks to raise the fry. The main reason for this is larger fry will kill and/or eat smaller fry.

I couldn't chose between the two - I keep both
