what could i have?

hi guys,

my moms getting a 55 gallon tank soon and i was wondering what american cichlid i could put in her old 20 gallon. maybe just one fish

Here are some suggestions, Do a search to find pictures if you don't know what they look like,

Convicts
Kribensis
Apistogramma (this is a genus of dwarf cichlids from South America, several species are common, they all look similiar in body shape)
Neolamprologus (a genus of dwarf shell dweller cichlids from Tanganyika)

Kribs are Africans. Not rift lake though, I think they prefer soft water.

Neolamprologus are African too, but they're not all shell dwellers. Brichardi and daffodils are in the same complex. They could be kept in a 20g, but I wouldn't keep more than a pair.

In a 20g for Americans I'd try convicts or rams. Rams are less aggressive, but I think they're more attractive as well. Bolivian rams are more forgiving from what I've heard. If I ever do an American dwarf tank that's what I'd keep. You might be able to keep a few tetras in with the rams too. Just stay away from any bottom dwelling tankmates.
