Alright, I really like the look of these fish. I mean, how can you not like the contrast of blue and yellow? The fact that they are dwarf mbuna makes it all the sweeter. I am thinking about picking some up on my trek to Armke's, but I want some info on them first. What size tank would you recommend? What are good tankmates? I will have a 30 gallon coming open when I move up my Jag, and I may be able to get my hands on a used 55 from a friend. He says it has something wrong with it, but if I can get it for free or close to it, I'm sure it's nothing I can't fix. :D

Just let me know what ya'll think...

I also like Dwarf Mbuna's I am getting ready to hold 1m and 3f from Armkes soon. I will be hosting them in a 30 gallon tank. Just don't do anything smaller then a 30.

welcome, aboard, structure guy! :) chet what else are you planning to house with the saulosi? if it's just going to be them, i'd say that the 30 gal. will be fine.

I would do a species tank in a 30. Everything I've read says that mbuna, even dwarfs, don't work well in a mixed species tank in anything less than a 55. I've got to get my Jag a bigger tank so I can take in her 35 for a Saulosi species tank. I'll probably throw in a bristlenose pleco to keep the glass clean for me.

I would have to say that Ps saulosi are my favorite cichlids. I got about seven from a breeder several years ago and gave them a 55 gallon all to themselves for years. They breed easily and often.

But my experience is that they have difficulty holding their own against the larger more agressive mbuna. Mine did not get along at all with Ps demasoni or Lab sp "mbamba" either. I do now have Pundamilia nyererei in there with them now and they are doing okay.

Cool link and some nice photos. You keep P. Nyererei with your Saulosi, and you don't have any aggression problems? Are the nyererei full grown? That would be an awesome looking tank. Those have to be two of the best looking cichlids I know of. Do you have any pics of the tank with the two species? I would love to see that combo.
