So I remember reading that Synodontis Multiplicatus like to 'borrow' their female Cichlid friends when breeding. I thought I saw one of the Multi's dancing around with the two Cichlids when they started to spawn last week. Well - she was holding ... and when I took a look at her eggs ... out popped 6 eggs that didn't look like the previous she had. These little guys have a long 'spine' already ... even with the egg sack. Here's a pix, not that good - but you might be able to see. Also below, is a live FishCam view into that breeding tank. :) Do you think they're really baby Synos?

Sorry, I really can't see anything in that pic. If you can post a better pic of the fry it should be easy enough to tell if they are synos. Regarding the eggs, Synodontis eggs are yellow and smaller than the cichlid eggs. If you think a parasitic spawning has taken place you can strip the female cichlid after 10-12 days. If you wait until the cichlid spits you will get fewer synos (perhaps even only 1 or 2), as once they have finished with the cichlid eggs/fry they will turn on each other in the hosts mouth. If you strip the female at 7 days or later and all you see are eggs then they are not synos as they tend to hatch after 4 days or so.

Edit: hey wait a second, RedtailCat this thread is over a year old! :lol2: The question will have been answered by now

Yup - that was an old thread! And no, I just had more Cichlids, no Synos!

But thanks for watching FishCam!
